On September 22, 2018, I married my best friend.
Two years of marriage and we have been through so much.
We have had a few arguments and disagreements.
We have had losses in our family.
One of us lost our job.
The list seems to go on and on…
I often think of the first time we meet. The butterflies in the stomach. The excitement of seeing where this relationship was going.
I remember the first time we said I love you to each other. The big grin I had on my face. I was such an amazing time in life.
We were getting to know one another. We seemed to be inseparable.
Marriage isn’t what I thought I would. The excitement is replaced with feeling be safe with that person. The unfamiliar is replaced with being comfortable with that person.
In the words of B.B. King… The Thrill is Gone.
The best advice we have ever head was to never stop dating. To bring the thrill back so to speak.
Every Friday Josh and I made that our date night. No matter what is going on we try to spend time together.
Last night laid in bed we just laughed and talked for hours. I reminded me of when we first dating. The long conversations on the phone that lasted to 2 A.M.
Sometimes it feels good to go back where you started.
Jesus wants us to do the same thing in our relationship with Him.
He wants us to remember what it was like when He filled us with His Spirit. When we first came to Him hungry.
Sometimes we work so hard at a relationship that we forget about the butterfly, exciting feeling it gave us. Jesus doesn’t want us to lose that love we had for Him in the beginning.
2 I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false.
3 You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.
4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.
5. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lamps and from its place.
– Revelation 2: 2-5
