10 Minutes

If you heard someone outside your home screaming for help, what would you do?

Most of us would call the police, right?

On March 13 ,1964 38 people living in an apartment building actually saw and heard a young woman getting attacked. This woman’s name was Kitty Genovese.

At the age of 28 Kitty was murder. She was stabbed to death. Not one of the 38 witnesses called the police during this attack.

While question the witnesses why they did not call the police. They replied that they thought someone else did.

Kitty was reportedly stabbed in the back twice then her murder , Robert Mozer, ran away because someone yelled at him. Ten minutes later Mozer returned to attack her even more.

During these ten minutes no called the cops or even checked a Kitty. During those ten minutes, someone could have actually saved her life.

As Christians, we always think we would do the right thing. If we would be one of the 38 would have helped save her life, right?

The truth is we walk past people every day who may be hurting, afraid, alone, or lost and they may only have 10 minutes left….

We put the responsibilities on other’s back. We think someone could do a better job of reaching out to these people. Our insecurities, disobedience, comfort zones, and doubts get in the way of helping others.

I wonder what it would be like if all Christians worked together helping others… do you think we would see the difference in the world we live in?

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. – Mark 16:15
