Not Always as it Seems

There is a way that seems right unto man, but in the end, it leads to death. – Proverbs 16:25

Reading the book Listening to Strangers the author speaks on misunderstanding people.

The author gave different stories of people being misunderstood. One story that stuck out to me was the Amanda Knox story.

I remember watching the Amanda Knox story on the lifetime channel as a teenager.

Amanda Knox was a young girl just traveling to Italy at the age of twenty.

In November 2007, Amanda was arrested for the murder of her friend Meredith. All through the trail, Amanda had questionable behavior. She yawned during and stretched after a long day in court. Since she was a cheerleader she showed someone her doing a split. Her behavior didn’t seem like someone who was mourning the loss of her friend.

Amanda stayed in an Italy jail from 4 years not for the murder of her friend, but for her questionable behavior. In the book, Listening to Strangers the author consider Amanda a mismatch.

Her behavior did not match what others think her behavior ”should” have been.

We make our own decisions not based on what the Bible tells us, but what by what others and society find acceptable.

We justify our behaviors because everyone else is doing the same thing.

We are so afraid of being accused of being different from others. We think being different is like jail to live in. We think being different is to be isolated from others. We think we can not relate to anyone. We think to be different there will always be a barrier between us and others.

Sometimes we think too much…

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty – 2 Corinthians 3:17

We can find freedom in the Lord. Being a Christian doesn’t mean there is a barrier between us and others, but instead, we are a bridge. We a bridge that helps people cross from their old life to the new life God can give them.

Don’t be afraid to be a mismatch.
