We are all fearfully and wonderfully made by our creator. That means we are all unique and there is no one else on the planet that is completely identical to us. From the perfect placement of a beauty mark to a quirky loud uncontrollable laugh, the lord has carefully thought out each and every part of us. But sometimes what makes us unique, can also make us complex and strange to others. Jesus taught us to love others, no matter what they look like and no matter what the circumstances may be.
It is easy for us to make up excuses on why we don’t have to love someone. I’ve often seen people turn their shoulder to loving someone else because that person was different from them in some way. Do they not believe that their creator had the perfect vision when designing that person too? Jesus wasn’t trying to make excuses on why he couldn’t love others. He was trying to find ways he could show everyone the love of God. It didn’t matter what they looked like, what they did in the past, or what their current story was. We so often dissociate someone from being our brother or sister, by pointing out their differences and therefore treating them less than. But we are all made in the eyes of our creator and therefore all loved just the same.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:11
To love one another is to be more like Jesus. When we love like Jesus we get to show people the love of God while we also become closer to God. Loving others can be scary, but it can also be a lot easier than we think. It doesn’t mean we have to shout “I love you” from the top of our lungs at every single person we come across. It just means that we are there for people when they are in need of help. It means we lift up others when they are down. It means we encourage them to be the best version of themselves. It doesn’t have to be difficult. Today friend, I challenge you to think of easy ways you can love others. And then instead of holding back, implement them!
Think of all the ways you can love someone, not all the reasons you shouldn’t love someone. Start today, love others the way that Jesus did!
