We have heard of songs and watched movies that spoke on being humble. We may even heard our parents or our teachers speak on being humble. Our Pastors may have had a sermon on being humble a time or two.
What does being humble really mean?
David was known for being a servant before he became a king. David was Anointed King by Samuel.
After Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David the spirit of the Lord rush upon David from that day forward. (1 Samuel 16:23)
Even though David knew that one day he was going to be a King he still choose to be a servant. Before David became a King he was a servant to his enemy Saul and his older brothers.
David played his lyre for Saul. When David played his lyre the evil spirits left from Saul.David knew his was anointed to take the place of Saul , but still used his talent to serve him.
All of David’s brothers were at war with the Philistines , so David’s father ( Jesse) wanted him to take food to the men that were fighting. David was just being a servant , but he didn’t realize being a servant led him into becoming a leader. After David brought the food for the men is when David faced Goliath. When David defeated Goliath set him on the path to become the king. (1 Samuel 17).
David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. -1 Samuel 17: 45
If David wasn’t a servant he may have never faced Goliath. When serving others doors begin to open not only for the people that were served , but also for the Servant.
Having a humble heart means you help and care for others. Sometimes we convince ourselves that we maybe are too spiritual to help those that are “not spiritual”. God may have anointed you , but like David you still have to be a servant. The most important part of being a leader is not the motivational words or how well you know the Bible. The most important part is being a service to people.
